Regulation
How is a guideline proven?
The Inter-American guidelines on data and AI governance, which the OAS published in 2023–24.
What they are
Regional organizations already write guidelines: in 2023–24 the OAS published the Inter-American guidelines on data and AI governance.
A guideline does not verify itself: it takes a record that proves it.
The document this page rests on names the guidelines and their years, but does not summarise what they require; nor does this page.
The question
When an agent approves a payment, closes a case file or moves a citizen’s data, the question will be the same one a public official is asked today: who authorized it, under which rule, and how it is proven.
Which industries they bear on
- Government and multilateralsGovernments in the region will deploy AI agents in public services, inspection, procurement and citizen service before they can supervise them.
What a signed record can show
- TodayEvery act of an agent sits under the authorization of an identified person, and that authorization is revoked with immediate effect.
- 2027 service · 2028 productWith the verifiable evidence package, traceability, human oversight, explanation and residency are laid out as controls, by legal obligation, article by article.
- From 2028Rebuilding what the system saw at a given moment and explaining it to the people affected.
Dates are projections of the current development plan, not commitments.
